What And When Was the First SUV Built?

The first SUV prototype was the GAZ M-72 Pobeda, which was built between 1955 and 1958. It had a unibody design with a front engine compartment and a rear passenger/cargo area. The vehicle was built to be used by farmers. It was later used by the military. In the early 1950s, the US military needed large vehicles for off-roading. In response, Toyota created the Toyota Land Cruiser. It had a large, rugged interior and 4-wheel drive. It was used by the Japanese National Police Agency and the US military.
